The lengths I go to for my furry kids September 26, 2012

Summer is around the corner and as a neurotic mother of three furry kids I want them to be safe but not cooped up indoors on those balmy days. So time to rethink on how to make this possible. We have a large patio area off our kitchen and lounge sliding door. Off this area are the stairs to the top garden which resembles a mini jungle and the side braai (barbecue) area. I also would like an area that looks good to entertain guests especially in the warmer months. so I have decided to enclose this area making it cat safe and proof and also aesthetically appealing. And of course once enclosed I will also buy a new outside patio and table to entertain as our house is to small inside for a dining area.

Over the weekend my man and I bought dropper poles and batons to make the frame. Treated latte of 2 meters high will then be nailed into the frame and a separate gate also made from latte will give access to the top garden and side area. The frame is now up and we just wait for the delivery of the latte to complete our home improvement.

I have seen a 10 seater wooden patio table with benches which is quite narrow and perfect for the rectangular patio and will just need to get a nice big umbrella for a bit of shade on those hot days.

It still has a long way to completion but I have added photos of the frame work with our existing plastic garden furniture which will be turfed and the table I will hopefully be buying.

I will update this post with photos on completion which will hopefully be within the next 2 weeks just in time for a visit from my mother. I see a lot of fun with friends and family and my cats being a part of the future. I can’t wait for the days where they can run around outside safe from harm!

Update:

We hired a nail gun yesterday after my man had sunk another dropper pole in the frame and cemented all the dropper poles. He then used the nail gun to secure the 2 meter high latte to the frame. He also made a door with the wooden batons, latte and 2 hinges. The ‘catio’ is now complete! Today we will be cleaning up the sand, old bricks and removing the dilapidated plastic furniture. Next step is to finish paying off the wooden table and benches and to buy a nice outside umbrella. Hopefully this will all be done in the week. The cats have been out already and I think they approve!

After a sweep up of the area and a bit of a clear out. Furniture still to come. The gate is in the right corner

Update:

The table and benches have now arrived. The umbrella is in place. My furry boys have been loving their time outside and it’s so great to entertain with them around
