Been awhile now since I’ve posted and no doubt because life has been so busy. Christmas, visitors, more visitors, back into work, training, volunteers, more volunteers and of course my 3 purr boys!

They’ve grown so and are so part of the family now. Lots and I mean LOTS of play fighting! And every object is a plaything! Every carrier bag gets explored, every piece of paper gets played with and of course every edible object gets sniffed at. Talk about little pigs!!! They have food 24/7 yet they are still voracious like piranha.

A few photos of them lately;

What is it about cats and computers? My boys are permanently trying to climb on our laptops or sit staring at the screen. Many a time we have woken up to the incessant beeping of my man’s laptop (he keeps it on his nightstand on the side of the bed) as one of our cats is sitting on the keyboard. On one particular occasion the whole screen had rotated thanks to Stormer’s (our kitten) rump on the keyboard.

But it’s not just the laptops, it’s their bags and sleeves too. If they are lying anywhere around the house one of the cats will be lying it sleeping in it. Just this morning I watched Stormer lie on my laptop sleeve. When he moved off it Mac came and lay on it. When he then moved off it Stormer came back to lay on it again. My furry boys are so techno savvy! Kids these days!!!

The lengths I go to for my furry kids September 26, 2012

Summer is around the corner and as a neurotic mother of three furry kids I want them to be safe but not cooped up indoors on those balmy days. So time to rethink on how to make this possible. We have a large patio area off our kitchen and lounge sliding door. Off this area are the stairs to the top garden which resembles a mini jungle and the side braai (barbecue) area. I also would like an area that looks good to entertain guests especially in the warmer months. so I have decided to enclose this area making it cat safe and proof and also aesthetically appealing. And of course once enclosed I will also buy a new outside patio and table to entertain as our house is to small inside for a dining area.

Over the weekend my man and I bought dropper poles and batons to make the frame. Treated latte of 2 meters high will then be nailed into the frame and a separate gate also made from latte will give access to the top garden and side area. The frame is now up and we just wait for the delivery of the latte to complete our home improvement.

I have seen a 10 seater wooden patio table with benches which is quite narrow and perfect for the rectangular patio and will just need to get a nice big umbrella for a bit of shade on those hot days.

It still has a long way to completion but I have added photos of the frame work with our existing plastic garden furniture which will be turfed and the table I will hopefully be buying.

I will update this post with photos on completion which will hopefully be within the next 2 weeks just in time for a visit from my mother. I see a lot of fun with friends and family and my cats being a part of the future. I can’t wait for the days where they can run around outside safe from harm!

We hired a nail gun yesterday after my man had sunk another dropper pole in the frame and cemented all the dropper poles. He then used the nail gun to secure the 2 meter high latte to the frame. He also made a door with the wooden batons, latte and 2 hinges. The ‘catio’ is now complete! Today we will be cleaning up the sand, old bricks and removing the dilapidated plastic furniture. Next step is to finish paying off the wooden table and benches and to buy a nice outside umbrella. Hopefully this will all be done in the week. The cats have been out already and I think they approve!

Time to clean up!!

After a sweep up of the area and a bit of a clear out. Furniture still to come. The gate is in the right corner

The table and benches have now arrived. The umbrella is in place. My furry boys have been loving their time outside and it’s so great to entertain with them around

My babies, Lucia and Evian, you will always be in my heart and a part if me will always be with you. I can only think how lucky I was to have been able to share such precious bittersweet time with you. May you rest in piece mommy’s darlings

When it’s been 3 weeks since my new fur babies came to live with me. It’s been great!!! The initial settling in went smoothly and they now all have the freedom of the house running around wherever they please. Harley the older boy is still a little nervous of the two younger brothers but it’s all going so well. I just love them to bits!! Lots of fun still ahead. I still miss my little girl terribly but it’s been great to have the newbies to run around after to keep my attention diverted from my babies passing on.

Adoption day is getting closer May 30, 2012

Well it’s now Wednesday and on Saturday I will be driving 3 hours away to fetch my new fur babies. I can’t quite believe it is all going to happen. This week has been last minute shopping scouring vet and pet shops for last minute essentials for the new little loves that are going to increase our family from 3 to 6. We are all very excited and I just wish this week would hurry up so that it was Saturday already! The knowledge of these 3 new arrivals are keeping my spirits up and are helping me to deal with the passing on of my little Lucy aka tuna breath. It’s funny how your head knows you did all you possibly could- my vet bills attest to that- and made the most selfless decision in letting her go after many years of having the most loving relationship ever but your heart just doesn’t want to let her go as if letting her spirit go will erase all memories from your mind which would be an impossibility. RIP my darling girl, mommy loves you forever and a day. And now a new chapter starts, a continuation in the story of my love for cats-specifically Persians- and I will be able to love and cherish 3 newcomers into my life with the same amount of energy and care that I did for Lucy. The roller-coaster of emotion, sadness and loss then excitement and fresh beginnings.

Harley (Tiger Burning Bright)

3 weeks and 1 day since my baby girl passed over. It feels like forever since we lay on the couch together and cuddled up. The days drag on, dull without her. But things are starting to happen and it looks like I might be adopting 3 new fur babies. It is all up to the breeder and if she’s happy with me and feels her cats will be happy and safe at my home then I might end up being lucky to welcome 3 gorgeous little ones into my life and home. Crossing paws and claws
